Committee meetings and political groups week - Brussels
Systemic risk board/ECB report
The Economics Committee will hear from the two vice-chairs of the new European Systemic Risk Board: Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, and Andrea Enria, chair of the European Banking Authority. Later in the same meeting, ECB Vice-President Vítor Constâncio will present his institution's annual report to the committee.

EURONEST assembly
EP President Jerzy Buzek will welcome participants to the inaugural session of the new assembly bringing together MEPs with national MPs from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, which takes place in Parliament (Tuesday).

Open Days at the EP
Parliament opens its doors to the public in Brussels (Saturday Ebs 2 - 14.30 CET y) and Strasbourg (Sunday Ebs 2 - 14.30 CET) and participates in public events in Luxembourg city centre (Saturday) for the annual open days of the EU institutions.
Preparing for the plenary
Parliament's political groups will devote most of the week to preparations for the 9-12 May plenary session in Strasbourg. The agenda includes legislation on textile labelling, short selling and credit default swaps, as well as votes on setting up a joint EP-Commission "transparency register" for lobbyists and other interest groups and on proposals for possible changes to the system for electing MEPs. The decision on granting discharge for the EU's financial management in 2009 will also be debated and put to the vote, and there will be a major debate on EU foreign and security policy.
