Belarus/election
EP President Jerzy Buzek will join a discussion in the Foreign Affairs Committee on the situation in Belarus following the disputed election. Participants include opposition leader and Sakharov Prize winner Aliaksandr Milinkevich, who will also have a bilateral meeting with Mr Buzek (Wednesday).

Russia/Khodorkovsky
The Human Rights Subcommittee will discuss the recent second trial and conviction in Russia of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev (Monday).

Economic governance
The Economics Committee will hold a public hearing on the EU's economic governance structures, with participants including former Commissioner Mario Monti, President of Bocconi University and author of a report on the future of the single market (Thursday).
Preparing for the plenary
Parliament's political groups will devote most of the week to preparations for the 17-20 January plenary session in Strasbourg. The agenda includes debates with the Hungarian and Belgian Prime Ministers on the incoming and outgoing Council presidencies, legislation to give easier access to treatment for patients in EU countries other than their own, a vote on the EU's association agreement with Serbia, and resolutions on Haiti, international adoption and alleged discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in Lithuania.
Pre-session press briefing
The EP Press Service and the main political group spokespeople will comment on the agenda at the regular pre-session briefing on Friday at 11am (Anna Politkovskaya room, PHS 0A050).
