Committee meetings - Brussels

European Council

EP President Jerzy Buzek will address the latest EU summit before holding a press conference (Thursday 18.30 CET TBC).  After the summit, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy will brief Parliament's political group leaders on the outcome (Friday).

Economic governance legislation

The Economics Committee begins its consideration of six draft EU laws intended to strengthen economic governance structures (Tuesday).

Hedge funds

Parliament and Council negotiators meet to try to reach a deal on the Alternative Investment Fund Managers directive (Tuesday).

EU Budget 2011

Following the plenary vote, work begins on the 2011 Budgetary conciliation process.  President Buzek and Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme will lead the Parliament and Council delegations at the first meeting (Wednesday Ebs 3 -17.30 CET)

Cross-border healthcare

The Environment Committee holds its second-reading vote on plans to allow patients to use healthcare systems in EU countries other than their own (Wednesday).

EU-US Data Protection

The Civil Liberties Committee holds a hearing on transatlantic data protection issues (Monday).

The High Representative/Commission VP will discuss priorities with the Foreign Affairs Committee, a few days after MEPs gave the green light to the budget and staffing rules needed to create the EAS (Wednesday).

EP President: Vatican and Kazakhstan

Jerzy Buzek visits the Vatican for a meeting with the Pope and senior officials (Monday Ebs 4 - 19.00 CET). Back in Brussels, he will meet Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan (Tuesday). Tuesday Ebs 2 - 14.30 CET

EU-Turkey

The 65th EU-Turkey joint parliamentary committee meeting takes place in Brussels, with the Turkish EU affairs minister, Egemen Bağış, taking part and also meeting President Buzek. In addition, the Human Rights Subcommittee holds a hearing on human rights in Turkey (Monday-Tuesday).

Wim Wenders

The film director will speak at a Culture Committee hearing on cinema and European identities, organised in association with the Parliament's Lux Prize for cinema.  Wednesday Ebs+ LIVE 10.00 - 12.30 CET and Ebs 2 - 14.30 CET

He will also meet President Buzek (Wednesday Ebs 3 -17.30 CET).
