A delegation of MEPs will be in Cancún for the 2010 UN climate change conference aiming to step up international action to tackle climate change (Monday - Saturday).

EU Budget 2011

Talks will continue between MEPs and the Council to resolve the impasse over next year's EU budget. EP President Jerzy Buzek will lead the Parliament delegation. The Budgets Committee will meet to discuss the outcome of these talks (Monday, Wednesday).

Oil-free future?

Parliament's scientific assessment panel STOA holds its annual lecture, with three speakers: Paul Crutzen and George Oláh, both winners of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, and Shai Agassi, founder of Better Place.

Jerzy Buzek and Commissioner Sim Kallas will be in London to open the Europe House, the new joint offices of the European Parliament and Commission. On Tuesday, the President will meet leading political figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg Ebs 3 -17.30 CET, opposition leader Ed Miliband, the speakers of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and Tony Blair, former Prime Minister and now Representative of the Middle East Quartet (Monday-Tuesday).

Preparing the plenary

Parliament's political groups will devote most of the week to preparations for the 13-16 December plenary session in Strasbourg.  The agenda currently includes legislation to enable citizens to request EU laws through the EU "citizen's initiative" plan, to tackle human trafficking, to give cross-border protection to victims of violence, and to give foreign workers equal rights with national workers on pay, working conditions and social security.



Policy in Afghanistan and the NATO summit will be debated with High Representative/Commission Vice-President Catherine Ashton. The session also sees the award ceremony for Parliament's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought - the 2010 laureate is Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas - as well as the annual report on human rights worldwide in 2009.

Pre-session briefing

The regular press briefing with the EP Press Service and political group spokespeople commenting on the final version of the session agenda will take place on Friday Ebs LIVE  11.00  (Anna Politkovskaya room PHS 0A050).
